Salvation question

Just a quick question for discussion: What does “accept Christ” mean? Does Scripture use this phrase? If it doesn’t, tht doesn’t necessarily make it wrong. Either way, what does it actually mean? Or is it just a nebulous Christian term?

Here is a great message manuscript (see link) from Tozer…the phrase isn’t so much wrong as it may not be best depending on how a person is handling the Gospel as it deals with salvation…http://www.neve-family.com/books/tozer/AcceptChrist-1.html

I do not really love that phrase when witnessing especially to teens. The phrase “accept Jesus into your heart” can be quite nebulous, like you said. If the person understands what they are doing then the phrase does make sense but when we just are pressuring the person to create a little keebler elve sized opening inside of themselves to let Jesus come on in, it can be confusing.

I began to understand this picture when I realized its really the Holy Spirit that we are accepting.
Romans 8:9 — You, however, are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if in fact, the Spirit of God dwells in you.

We receive Christ’s Spirit to live inside us and give us grace/power.

@RickWarren: The Christian life isnt imitation of Christ but inhabitation by Christ.”

    Accept Jesus into your heart.
